Lathe Modifier
Lathe is useful for creating polygonal objects from splines, it is especially good for creating simple objects like pots. It "spins" the curve around a point to create a 3d polygonal or NURBS object.
First draw out the profile of the object, in this case a simple flask will do.
Select splines, then line and draw out your object. Holding the mouse button will bend the line rather than making it straight, if you want it to be precise you can turn on snaps. To make the point snap to the grid, right click on the small magnet icon with a 3 at the top, then tick grid points.

Next, apply the lathe modifier from the modifier list. If it looks weird then you may need to play with the settings such as direction and align. I created mine in the front view port, I had to only press min align to get the correct look.

And you have yourself a pot. This method is excellent if you want to mass produce such items as extras for a scene.
Next you may want to collapse the stack so you have your finished pot, ready for texturing. It may also be necessary to flip the normals, you could do this before you lathe in the lathe modifier option rollout or you can apply the normal modifier from the modifier list to flip the normals.
