Linked Xform if similar to the Xform modifier, except that this allows the target object's sublevel components to be manipulated by a control object. For non subobject application, the effect is similar to when you group some objects.

Apply the linked xform modifier to the object you want to be controlled by another, then pick the control object. In the above example, the purple rectangle is controlled by the brown one.
